About The Church Mouse

Traditional Hospitality at The Church Mouse

Of all the pubs in Chester-le-Street, The Church Mouse is surely the best place to make the most of our weather (come rain or shine) - with a delicious meal, a thirst quenching drink and the cherished company of family and friends. Soak up the warmest of welcomes and explore some of the most popular pub food menus in North East. Try one of our hugely satisfying seasonal dishes with a glass of fine wine or sample a rewarding pint of our regularly changing and highly quaffable cask-conditioned real ales.

A Little Pub History

The mining community of Chester Moor has been in need of refreshment since the first colliery opened in 1889, with over 700 men and boys working in the pits by 1940. Following the closure of the final colliery in the 1960's, The Church Mouse now welcomes locals and travellers making the journey between Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham and Sunderland.
