A Little Pub History
The Duke of York is so called because the hill we sit on is the very hill that the Grand Old Duke of York marched his 10,000 men up before marching them down again. This is a reference to the troop encampment located here in Napoleon's time to protect the coast.
Make a day of it
The Duke of York is a distinctive country pub near the River Debden, a perfect refreshment stop for visitors to Woodbridge, the Tide Mill and Sutton Hoo. Our pub is so named because of the seals in the river.
