The Fox and Roman, a country pub in York

We’ve got everything you need from a country pub near you.

Steeped in as much history as the nearby city of York, our name The Fox and Roman reflects the building's former use as The Fox Hotel and also to a Roman grave found on the site in 1833, we even have a few artefacts on display. The Fox Hotel used to stable racehorses and we still welcome friendly crowds of race goers on race days at the nearby York Racecourse.

Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires.

Charming country pubs in lovely locations

Opposite the gates to York Racecourse, the Fox & Roman is a sure bet with guests. Handy for York, there are many Roman remains in the area and sites of historic interest to intrigue visitors.

Whether you’re out walking your dog or just exploring the local area, there’s always plenty to do around The Fox and Roman.
