A little pub history
Hassocks is a portion of the old parishes of Keymer and Clayton surrounding Hassocks railway station. Were it not for the railways, Hassocks might not exist. The Friar's Oak lay originally in the parish of Clayton. The original inn may well have opened to serve the thirsty railway construction workers.
Make a day of it
Perched on a golf course, our pub is named after a large oak tree beneath which monks once distributed alms. On the skyline above Hassocks are the Clayton Windmills known locally as Jack and Jill.
