Charming country pubs in lovely locations

There is some speculation surrounding the origin of The Golden Retriever, with the original building predating planning legislation. It is believed that the original site, which was said to be a forester’s cottage dating back to 1841, was later developed into dog kennels (hence our name!).

Since then, we’ve created our own local traditions, including our annual Ale and Music Festival. During the festive season, we also made history with the only glass bottle Christmas Tree in the county!

Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires.
