About The Hanging Gate

Traditional Hospitality at The Hanging Gate

Of all the pubs in Shottle Gate, The Hanging Gate is surely the best place to make the most of our weather (come rain or shine) - with a delicious meal, a thirst quenching drink and the cherished company of family and friends. Soak up the warmest of welcomes and explore some of the most popular pub food menus in Derbyshire and Notts. Try one of our hugely satisfying seasonal dishes with a glass of fine wine or sample a rewarding pint of our regularly changing and highly quaffable cask-conditioned real ales.

A Little Pub History

Dating back almost 350 years, The Hanging Gate has become a prominent part of the community of Shottle. We have always welcomed travellers, offering a welcome break for those on long journeys in the area. We even ran a stables so that the horses could take a break whilst the travellers tucked into a hearty bowl of broth.

Around The Area

Set in the foothills to the Peak District, our pub is popular with visitors to Carsington Water and the White Peak. Nearby North Mill Visitor Centre illustrates why Derwent Valley Mills are part of a designated World Heritage Site.
