About The Melville Inn

Traditional Hospitality at The Melville Inn

Of all the pubs in Lasswade, The Melville Inn is one of the best places to enjoy the crackle of a real fire, a fulfilling winter meal and the treasured company of family and friends. Soak up the warmest of welcomes and explore some of the most popular pub food menus in Scotland. Try one of our satisfying seasonal dishes with a glass of fine wine or sample a rewarding pint of our regularly changing cask-conditioned real ales.

A Little Local Pub History

Melville Castle sits to the south of the Inn. This three-storey gothic styled castellated house has recently been restored. It replaced an earlier tower house built by Henry Dundas, the first Viscount Melville. A mile to the east of the Melville Inn are ancient fortification mounds known as Sheriff's Hall where there has long stood an old house in which George Buchanan is said to have written the "History of Scotland".

Around The Area

Edinburgh Butterfly & Insect World is next door to The Melville Inn and this is also great golfing country. There are lots of good walks along old railway lines, forest tracks and riverside paths.
