About The Red Cow

Traditional Hospitality at The Red Cow

Of all the pubs in Leicester Forest East, The Red Cow is one of the best places to enjoy the crackle of a real fire, a fulfilling winter meal and the treasured company of family and friends. Soak up the warmest of welcomes and explore some of the most popular pub food menus in Leicestershire. Try one of our satisfying seasonal dishes with a glass of fine wine or sample a rewarding pint of our regularly changing cask-conditioned real ales.

A Little Pub History

The Red Cow started out in the 1650's as a very small inn in a row of cottages in a village near Leicester. Our name comes from an old rhyme which relates to the pub restaurant. "The old red cow, Which never did low, With coat as soft as silk. Come in, if you please, And sit down at your ease, And taste her nut brown milk".

Charming Local Accommodation

Our 31 bedroom Innkeeper's Lodge continues The Red Cow's tradition of welcoming travellers. It's our local charm that attracts tourists and shoppers, as well as diners and drinkers from Leicester and nearby Groby, Enderby and Braunstone. We also welcome business and leisure travellers to enjoy some of the best bedrooms and accommodation in Leicester.

Around The Area

A perfect stop before going on to Leicester Racecourse, The Red Cow pub is a rare treasure for walkers enjoying the heart of the rolling Leicestershire countryside, a charming thatched inn of great character.
