About The Stables

Traditional Hospitality at The Stables

Of all the pubs in Kirkintilloch, The Stables is surely the best place to make the most of our weather (come rain or shine) - with a delicious meal, a thirst quenching drink and the cherished company of family and friends. Soak up the warmest of welcomes and explore some of the most popular pub food menus in Scotland. Try one of our hugely satisfying seasonal dishes with a glass of fine wine or sample a rewarding pint of our regularly changing and highly quaffable cask-conditioned real ales.

A Little Pub History

The Stables was built to serve the watermen and horses using the Forth and Clyde Canal. When the canal was first built the boats that used it were pulled by horses, as a horse could go a few miles before needing a rest stables were built along the route. The stables would have an Inn on one side where the boatman and his passengers might rest and eat whilst on the other side there would have been equine accommodation with a hayloft above.

Around The Area

Our grand looking pub has great views over Firth of Clyde, and was built in 1812 to rest the horses working on the nearby canal. Boat trips can be taken from the jetty, reached via a footpath.
