In the 1800s, nestled in the Derbyshire countryside in the charming village of Kegworth, there was an inn known as The Navigation. A succession of inns occupied the site over the years until The Otter was established in 1996.
From delicious sandwiches to light bites, to our fantastic pub classics and fresh roasts on a Sunday, enjoy dining in the summer with a beautifully picturesque views of the River Soar . When winter arrives, enjoy the charismatic charm of our beautiful interiors, cosy up by our roaring log fires and enjoy all the heart-warming dishes (including our daily specials) that make The Tame Otter the well-loved country pub that it is.

Beside Birmingham and Fazeley Canal our old inn has excellent gardens and is great for a waterside walk. A World War II pillbox stands by the canal bridge and north there is ancient woodland at Hopwas Hayes.

Located just a 7-minute drive from J24 off the M1, or a 10-minute drive from East Midlands Airport, getting to The Otter couldn’t be easier.
Our diners and drinkers include locals from both Leicestershire and Loughborough, you’ll find Loughborough University only 5 miles away, which is around 10 minutes in the car. Look out for Donington Park and Motor Circuit just a few miles away, as well Deltaforce Paintballing for those who like a little more adrenaline. Or, you can explore our local beauty spots, the Jacobean Thrumpton Hall a perfect site to visit after a scenic walk by the canal.
You can even rent a riverboat for the day and glide along the River Soar, soaking up your beautiful surrounding, before joining us for hearty food and refreshing drinks.
