Welcome to The Friar's Oak in Hassocks

orange-linebreak.png

We’ve got everything you need from a country pub near you.

The town of Hassocks sits between Keymer and Clayton. The original inn is believed to have been opened to serve the thirsty railway and construction workers from Hassocks railway station.

Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, including our steak & mushroom pie and beer-battered fish and chips, as well as seasonal surprises if you’re after something a little different.

We look forward to welcoming you, and we’ll ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, lager, fine wines, British gin and soft drinks to suit every taste — which will taste all the better when enjoyed in our beautiful and picturesque gardens.

WHY NOT MAKE A DAY OF IT?

Situated overlooking a golf course, our pub is named after a large oak tree where monks used to give out alms. It was also used by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as the setting for his novel Rodney Stone. On the skyline above Hassocks are both of the Clayton Windmills, known locally as Jack and Jill.

Why not take a trip to Brighton Pier, just 30 minutes away by car. Or, pop in and see us after a day at Plumpton Racecourse!

Whether you’re out walking your dog or just exploring the local area, there’s always plenty to do around The Friar's Oak.
