There is some speculation surrounding the origin of The Golden Retriever, with the original building predating planning legislation. It is believed that the original site, which was said to be a forester’s cottage dating back to 1841, was later developed into dog kennels (hence our name!).
But over the course of the last 16 years, while keeping to the original, rustic farmhouse-style, we’ve even created our own local traditions, including our annual Ale and Music Festival. During the festive season, we also made history with the only glass bottle Christmas Tree in the county!
From delicious sandwiches to sensational light bites, as well as our fantastic pub classics and fresh roasts on Sunday, you’ll be able to enjoy a range of dining experiences in our charming country pub nestled right at the edge of the 100-acre Swinley Forest.
