Located in Braintree, The Plymouth Arms is perfect if you’re looking to get away from the bigger cities. It’s located just 26 minutes from Cardiff via the A4161, or 34 minutes away Newport via the A48.

The inn takes its name from Elizabeth Lewis, heiress of a major local landowner in the area, who married the Third Earl of Plymouth in the early 1700's. The Plymouth Arms' location provided easy access to Cardiff and was a popular stop off point for people travelling there in traditional handsom cabs.

There are plenty of exciting things to visit in St. Fagans, before or after your visit to The Plymouth Arms.

Love the outdoors? Make sure to visit The Valeways Millennium Heritage Trail. This trail is a circular route around the Vale of Glamorgan through landscapes of historical and scenic interest, with inland and costal sections. The 14-mile Glamorgan Heritage Coast provides a coastal route of ecological diversity taking in rocky and sandy beaches, sand dunes and cliffs.

Why not also visit St Fagans Castle? St Fagans Castle is a Grade 1 listed building and of the finest Elizabethan manor houses in Wales dating from the late 16th century. In 1946 the Castle, together with eighteen acres of land, was donated by the Earl of Plymouth to the National Museum of Wales as a site for a national open-air museum. Take in the sights and history St. Fagans has to offer, then head to The Plymouth Arms for a pint or delicious dish.
