Charming country pubs in lovely locations

Although the town of Thornhill is a relatively modern area, The Traveller's Rest dates back as far as the 1800's, records show it was granted its first license in 1864. Unlike many other pubs, The Traveller's Rest remained open throughout the Second World War. Mr George Lightfoot ran it throughout the war and continued to do so until 1971.

The Traveller's Rest is very much the chocolate box picture of a traditional British inn. Perched on Caerphilly Mountain at the foothills to the Welsh Valleys, there are spectacular views over Cardiff, and this is great walking country.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires.
